Rivian opens first three EV Fast Charging Networks in Colorado and California
Electric vehicle maker Rivian has opened its first three fast charging sites of its nationwide Rivian Adventure Network this week.
The first site has opened in Salida, Colorado, where Rivian and its partners installed four chargers, including one pull-through charger for vehicles towing trailers. The site also has four “Level 2” Rivian Waypoints chargers, available for use by any EV model using the Rivian smartphone app.
The next two sites opened in Inyokern and Bishop, California earlier this summer. These sites support places of visit, like the Yosemite National Park, the Sequoia National Forest, Mammoth Lakes, and the Death Valley National Park.
These “Level 3” DC fast charging sites will supply more than 200 kilowatts of power initially. Rivian drivers will be able to add up to 140 miles of range in only 20 minutes.
Rivian’s Senior Director of Energy and Charging Solutions explained, “In addition to scenic or off-the-beaten-path destinations, our fast charging rollout is designed to ensure travelers have places to charge along major transportation corridors coast to coast.”
Rivian will continue to add new sites to its Rivian Adventure Network, aiming for 3,500 fast chargers at 600 sites initially across North America. The firm is building this network along popular routes and remote and off-road destinations to support road trips using EVs, officials said.
Rivian is also matching or offsetting the charger outputs with 100% renewable energy on an annual basis. The company is working with clean energy developers and operators on locating and installing these projects.
