Cummins, Daimler Truck North America upgrade Freightliner Cascadia truck with H2 Fuel Cell powertrain
Power and hydrogen technologies provider Cummins and Daimler Truck North America have collaborated to deliver an upgraded version of the Freightliner Cascadia truck, in line with both organizations’ goals to reduce emissions across product offerings and operations.
The truck will be fitted with Cummins’ fourth generation fuel cell powertrain, which offers improved power density, efficiency and durability.
Once the trucks are successfully validated, the firms intend to have the initial units available in 2024 for select customers in North America.
“Depending on the customer application and energy infrastructure considerations, hydrogen-powered vehicles can absolutely complement battery-powered electric vehicles in accelerating our carbon-neutral journey,”
Rakesh Aneja, Vice President and Chief of eMobility at DTNA, said. “We are pleased to expand our partnership with Cummins to include hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles in our future portfolio. We remain focused on serving our customers by providing them with a choice of propulsion-technologies, ultimately resulting in solutions that best suit their business needs.”
Cummins is working on several fronts in the hydrogen-fueled transportation sector. Among those are projects to do hydrogen blending in Canada with natural gas firm Enbridge, and a green hydrogen hub with utility Florida Power & Light.
