    CEC approves Yotta Energy’s $1.2M Solar-Storage for Santa Ana Multifamily site

    Yotta Energy is developing a solar and battery storage project in tandem with the Electric Power Research Institute and developer Promise Energy. The demonstration project will provide backup power for a multifamily housing complex in Santa Ana, California.

    The states’s Energy Commission awarded the $1.23 million grant to Yotta Energy to support scaling up of clean energy for underserved and lower income communities.

    "Our state has long been dedicated to introducing and integrating renewable energy, but as lower-income areas lagged behind in adoption due to a lack of resources, these communities have experienced elevated air pollution levels," said CEC Chair David Hochschild. “We look forward to working with Yotta Energy on this project to demonstrate the viability of these installations and how we can replicate similar types across the state.”

    The solar and storage microgrid could provide carbon reduction energy, but also create economic benefits for the Santa Ana community, according to the release.

    "This is a significant step for the city of Santa Ana as the state looks to adopt and implement greener technologies into its buildings," said Omeed Badkoobeh, CEO of Yotta Energy. "Not only will this project lead to a cleaner, healthier local environment, but it will also open the door for economic prosperity and growth in Santa Ana.”

    Austin-based Yotta last year was awarded nearly $2 million from a Department of Defense program to install a solar and storage microgrid at Nellis Air Force Base in Law Vegas.

    The company also secured more than $13 million in funding to create opportunities for its microgrid solution across California.
