IndustryWeek Production Pulse: The Future of Manufacturing and Microgrids

Jan. 27, 2025
The electric power sector is facing daunting challenges from the growth of data centers, reshoring manufacturing and electrification of transportation.

The future of manufacturing and industrial microgrids was at the center of last week’s Production Pulse podcast for IndustryWeek, a cousin publication to Microgrid Knowledge.

Jana Gerber, who heads up the North American microgrid sector for Schneider Electric, gave an inside look at how the distributed energy and on-site power equations are evolving. The electric power sector is facing daunting challenges from the growth of data centers, reshoring manufacturing and electrification of both transportation and manufacturing.

“A microgrid provides a decentralized, digitized and decarbonized alternative to some other elements out there,” Gerber pointed out.  “It really is a behind-the-meter power plant.”

She was joined by Microgrid Knowledge Managing Editor Rod Walton and David Paganie, who is content director for the upcoming Microgrid Knowledge Conference happening April 15-17 at the Sheraton Dallas.
