Toyota Boshoku America Installing Its Largest On-Site Solar Project to Support Sustainable Manufacturing at Illinois Plant

May 9, 2024
The project is expected to produce over 9,500,000 kWh in the first year of production and provide more than 85% of the plant’s annual electricity requirements

Toyota Boshoku America, a global automotive supplier, Sol Systems, a developer of national renewable energy solutions, and Onyx Renewable Partners, a provider of distributed clean energy solutions, have collaborated on a 5,650 kWdc solar energy project to help power operations at the Toyota Boshoku Illinois plant in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and support sustainable manufacturing.

The project, which will be located on approximately 17 acres near the Toyota facility, is scheduled for completion in late 2024.

The project is expected to produce over 9,500,000 kWh in the first year of production and provide more than 85% of the plant’s annual electricity requirements, equivalent to powering approximately 880 homes annually.

Additionally, the project will feature pollinator-friendly plants to amplify its environmental impact. In total, this project will be Toyota Boshoku America's largest on-site solar project to date, aligning with the company's goal to eliminate the impact of carbon emissions from its facilities.

"Protecting the environment is one of our company’s core values. Through our decarbonization efforts, we are also committed to increasing the total amount of renewable energy available throughout the regions in which we operate," said Ryan Hunt, VP at Toyota Boshoku America. "Today’s announcement is a tangible reflection of those commitments and will help us move closer to our goal of a carbon-free company in the future.”
