Energy Partners Installing 3,847 MWh Solar System at Kimberly-Clark Manufacturing Facility
Kimberly-Clark, a personal care and hygiene products manufacturer that owns brands such as Kleenex, Kotex, and Huggies, and Energy Partners have signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to install a rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the City of Cape Town, South Africa.
Under the terms of the PPA, Energy Partners will install a 2.2 MW rooftop solar system at the Kimberly-Clark Epping manufacturing site, responsible for producing Huggies and Kotex products.
“The new rooftop solar PV systems will enhance Kimberly-Clark’s capacity to manage electricity consumption whilst also enabling them to substantially increase their renewables penetration,” said Charl du Plessis, GM of Energy Partners Power.
Once commissioned, the solar system will have an annual energy production of 3,478 MWh per year – equivalent to powering 1,030 residential homes annually – and save over 3,130 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
“We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, and this project will contribute towards helping us meet our 2030 goal to reduce total emissions by 50% compared to 2015 globally,” said Steven Hayes, GM of Kimberly-Clark Sub-Saharan Africa.
