Ameren Missouri launches two Community Solar projects under Neighborhood program
Electric utility Ameren Missouri will launch two solar energy projects in the state – one in the north St. Louis city and another in Jefferson County – as part of its Neighborhood Solar program.
The two sites combined, are expected to generate enough clean energy to power an estimated 55 homes by the end of 2023. The projects will involve the installation of approximately 1,200 solar panels and cover an area, about the size of two football fields.
The large-scale north St. Louis site will be at the utility’s North Metro Operating Center at Interstate 70 and Union Boulevard. The Jefferson County site will be at the Jefferson District Operating Center in House Springs.

Ameren Missouri Chairman and President Mark Birk said the projects will also create jobs and provide apprenticeships for underserved communities and offer them experience in the solar installation industry.
“Ameren Missouri's Smart Energy Plan is enhancing reliability and providing smarter energy infrastructure throughout the state,” added Birk. “We are already hearing from customers that our investments in clean and reliable energy, along with a competitive economic development incentive, are boosting economic development because businesses can operate more efficiently and expand more rapidly.”Additionally, solar generation is one of the pillars of Ameren Missouri’s Smart Energy Plan, which includes investments in upgraded substations, smart technology and new power lines to minimize outages.
The announcement of these new projects comes soon after Ameren Missouri announced plans to acquire a 200MW solar installation in central Missouri – the Huck Finn Solar Project.
