    Commercial Envelope supplier installing nearly 1-MW Rooftop Solar array at Illinois plant

    Postal packaging firm Continental Envelope has contracted to have a rooftop solar project installed at its manufacturing facility in Geneva, Illinois.

    The deal with renewable energy firm Correlate Infrastructure Partners begins with the engineering, permitting and interconnection work underway. The solar project will generate sufficient power to cover 20% to 25% of the overall energy requirements at the facility, providing low-cost, fixed-price energy.

    The 908-kW solar project, which is expected to be operational by the third quarter of this year, will offset approximately 18,849 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere over the next two decades, as per the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator. This will be equivalent to planting 282,000 trees.

    Correlate Infrastructure Partners has been involved in the development and financing of renewable energy projects for large companies, like Cisco, Samsung, KraftHeinz and Graphic Packaging, as well as universities, like Tufts University in Massachusetts,  University of California at Berkeley and Arizona State University.

    Continental Envelope has been one of the leading independent manufacturers of commercial envelopes since the 1930s and counts some of the largest brands in the nation as clients, including American Express, Capital One, AT&T and Netflix.

    Continental Envelope built its Geneva facility in 1997.
