Under the EYA plan, new home buyers could choose the option of rooftop solar during the design phase of their townhome purchase. Ipsun Solar would install between eight to 14 425-watt panels and an inverter each, depending on the home model.

Community solar firm Ipsun is partnering with Washington, D.C. property developer EYA on an initiative to increase rooftop solar panel installations atop new townhomes in the Reservoir District of the nation’s capital.

Under the plan, new home buyers could choose the option of rooftop solar during the design phase of their townhome purchase. Ipsun Solar would install between eight to 14 425-watt panels and an inverter each, depending on the home model.

"This partnership reflects our mission of making solar energy accessible, high-quality, and an easy choice for homeowners," said Jim Cahill, General Manager of Ipsun Solar, in a statement. "EYA's leadership in building vibrant, walkable communities aligns perfectly with our commitment to clean energy. Together, we're helping residents lower utility costs, reduce emissions, and invest in long-term sustainability."

Townhome residents who choose to install the Ipsun Solar panels could benefit from a 30% federal tax credit or also generate income through the Solar Renewable Energy Certificates. The solar panels include long-term warranties from Ipsun and Q CELLS.

EYA’s development at the historic Reservoir District neighborhood plans to include a District of Columbia community center, six-acre public park, retail shopping and restaurants and more. The plan is creating residences for a walkable lifestyle in an urban setting.

EYA plans to build about 146 new townhomes on the 25-acre sit, as well as 500 apartments. The Reservoir District project is a public-private partnership between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners.
