New PPA supports Idaho Solar Farms Committed to Powering Meta Data Center

Nov. 14, 2024
The 200 MW Pleasant Valley Solar 1 and 2 facilities will deliver solar energy to Idaho Power’s grid and support Meta to operate its data center in Kuna with 100 percent renewable energy.

Utility Idaho Power has reached a renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) deal that will help supply solar energy to a nearby Meta data center.

Idaho Power and rPlus Energies agreed to the PPA for the 125-MW Pleasant Valley Solar 2 farm in Ada County, Idaho. The first phase, Pleasant Valley Solar 1, is currently under construction.

Both the projects will not only deliver solar energy to Idaho Power’s grid but also support Meta’s aim to operate its data center in Kuna with 100 percent renewable energy.

The project is developed through Idaho Power’s Clean Energy Your Way – Construction Program, which provides options for businesses looking to meet corporate sustainability or carbon emission goals.

Pleasant Valley Solar 1 is majority-owned by Matrix Renewables and is expected to be commercially operational in early 2025.

While construction of Pleasant Valley Solar 2 is scheduled for late 2024, it plans to involve local vendors throughout the process to strengthen revenue for the region, support local businesses, and create approximately 200 construction-related jobs.

Idaho Keeps Eyes on the Energy Transition with New Projects

Some of the key investor and commercial partners in Pleasant Valley Solar 1 raised $123,000 for the Local First and Energy First scholarships collectively to benefit Ada County students attending Boise State University and the College of Western Idaho. This approach will also be implemented for the Pleasant Valley Solar 2 project.
