TotalEnergies Installs Solar Rooftop System at the Mall of Asia in the Philippines

The solar array consists of more than 3,670 PV panels capable of generating 3,000 MWh of clean electricity annually
To help achieve its net zero commitment by 2040, Asian real estate and property developer SM Prime has partnered with TotalEnergies to install a 2 MW-peak solar photovoltaic (PV) rooftop system on the Mall of Asia Complex in the Philippines.

The rooftop solar array is comprised of more than 3,670 PV panels capable of generating 3,000 MWh of clean electricity annually. In total, this is expected to reduce the Mall's carbon footprint by approximately 1,430 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

"This partnership is our commitment to sustainability and achieving net zero by 2040. We are also taking a proactive stance in supporting the Department of Energy’s (DOE) target of reaching 35% renewable energy by 2030. Together, we are driving meaningful change toward a more environmentally conscious future," said John Nai Peng Ong, SM Prime's Chief Finance Officer.

SM Prime's collaboration with TotalEnergies is only the latest sustainability partnership the company has undertaken to help meet the DOE's 35% renewable energy goal by 2030.

For example, in 2022, SM Prime secured a long-term contract with AboitizPower to supply responsibly sourced energy from its geothermal power plants. In the following year, SM Prime also signed a memorandum of agreement with Citicore Renewable Energy Company, allowing SM Prime to source 90 MW from Citicore's upcoming Lumbangan Solar Power Plant in Batangas.

With the introduction of this new solar array, SM Prime is now receiving more than 50% of its electricity from clean, renewable energy sources.
