130+ Wendy's Locations Enroll in Community Solar Program to Source Clean Energy and Decarbonize Operations

June 27, 2024
More than 130 Wendy's locations have enrolled in Ampion's community solar program and are sourcing up to 100% of their energy needs from solar without having to install solar panels on site
Wendy's is partnering with Ampion Renewable Energy, a community solar provider, to help its restaurants across New York, Illinois, and Massachusetts source renewable energy to power their operations through Ampion's community solar program. This will reduce the company's energy costs, secure renewable energy certificates (RECs), and reduce Wendy's overall greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are excited about the opportunity this partnership provides our Company and franchise restaurant operators by making it easier and more accessible to source clean energy while ultimately realizing cost savings,” said Steven Derwoed, VP of Global Design & Construction at Wendy’s.

Currently, more than 130 Wendy's locations have enrolled in Ampion's community solar program and are sourcing up to 100% of their energy needs from solar without having to install solar panels on site. This initiative will also advance Wendy's decarbonization goals of reducing its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 47% per restaurant by 2030.

In total, the participating Wendy's locations have already enrolled approximately 27.5 million kWh in community solar - the equivalent of reducing the CO2 emissions from the electricity used by over 2,200 homes annually.

"As the need for reducing carbon emissions grows, community solar combined with RECs provides a solution for environmental sustainability in the corporate sector that is both achievable and affordable," said Nate Owen, CEO and Founder of Ampion. “We’re seeing more large companies actively seeking sustainable solutions through community solar."
