Grupo Puntacana Installing Solar + Battery Storage in Punta Cana to Produce 50% of City's Energy Needs

Grupo Puntacana, a sustainable tourism company, and Eurelius, a developer and investor in energy transition projects, will collaborate to implement a large-scale solar energy generation and battery storage project in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

More than 30 MWp of solar production and 50 MWh of battery storage will be installed to produce over 50% of the energy consumed in the community and prevent 25,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Ultimately, this project will contribute to developing a more sustainable destination, stabilize the system in the face of daily weather variations, and make Punta Cana one of the few Latin American cities to produce more than 50% of its energy from renewable sources.

The solar plant will be located at the Punta Cana International Airport, where the companies will have the space for future expansion projects.

"We believe that this project is not only a landmark to Grupo Puntacana, but a signal to other private industrial and commercial groups in Latin America currently evaluating ways to substantially lower their electricity bills and reduce their carbon footprint. This project will demonstrate that solar and battery electrical storage systems are the most affordable energy source in the Caribbean today," said Michael Bellmer, Managing Partner of Eurelius.
