EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Andes Solar, a Chilean clean energy projects developer, have signed an agreement to co-develop three wind energy projects in the regions of Nuble and Los Rios.
The portfolio represents a total of more than 450 MW to generate over 1,300 GWh of clean energy per year – enough to power nearly 650,000 Chilean homes annually. The projects are scheduled to be operational between 2027 and 2030.
"We are very excited about this agreement and its scope since, without a doubt, it will bring countless opportunities for development and growth for everyone, including the communities where the projects are located, a fundamental axis of the company's purpose," said Roberto Munoz, General Manager of Andes Solar. "With this alliance, Andes Solar reaches a development portfolio of more than 2 GW throughout the country.”
This agreement will also allow EDPR to expand its presence in Chile into new regions, thereby reinforcing its contribution to the decarbonization of the country's energy matrix by providing clean energy to its residents and businesses.
“This alliance allows us to diversify and consolidate our project portfolio, combining the experience of two companies that share the objective of carrying out projects contributing to a clean and fair energy transition. In 2024, we will carry out an early outreach process with communities present in the areas of influence of each project, developing informative instances in advance of the environmental processing process,” highlights Enrique Álvarez-Uría, Country Manager of EDPR in Chile.
