Proman and Mitsubishi Sign MoU to Develop Ultra-Low-Carbon Ammonia Facility in Louisiana
Proman and Mitsubishi Corporation have signed an MoU to build a world-scale ultra-low-carbon ammonia facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana. By utilizing carbon capture and sequestration technology, the facility will produce about 1.2 million tons of clean ammonia annually.
The proposed facility will be located on Proman's existing site in Lake Charles near the company’s natural gas to methanol plant, which is currently under development.
The generated ammonia will be exported to Japan as a clean fuel to reduce emissions from coal-fired power plants as part of the country’s national strategy to increase consumption of domestic ammonia to help reach decarbonization goals.
"Proman is already a fertilizer producer, and we are committed to expanding our global production to drive forward ammonia's critical role as a fertilizer, fuel, and decarbonized future energy source,” said David Cassidy, Proman's Chief Executive. “Once completed, this state-of-the-art plant with carbon capture technology will be a major step towards meeting the growing demand for ammonia as a clean fuel."
