Public Storage and Solar Landscape Building 130+ Multi-State Community Rooftop Solar Projects
In partnership with Solar Landscape, a commercial and industrial rooftop solar developer, Public Storage has begun construction on 133 multi-state community rooftop solar projects. The projects will combine to create an 87.53 MW DC clean energy portfolio that will power over 10,000 low- and moderate-income residents throughout Illinois, Maryland, and New Jersey.
The solar projects will be installed on Public Storage facility rooftops, totaling eight million square feet, and provide discounted renewable energy through a subscription program to local residents who cannot install private solar panels due to high costs, lack of roof control, or insufficient sunlight. The program is expected to save residents millions of dollars every year on electricity costs.
“Community solar furthers Public Storage’s strong commitments to sustainability and our communities,” said John Sambuco, President of Asset Management at Public Storage. “We are providing affordable renewable energy for low- and moderate-income residents, reducing our collective carbon impact on the environment, and converting non-used rooftop areas into socioeconomically productive space for our company.”
In total, Public Storage will install 57 projects in Maryland, 44 projects in Illinois, and 32 projects in New Jersey, and once complete, the projects will represent 13% of the company’s commitment to installing solar systems on more than 1,000 facilities by 2025.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with a forward-thinking company like Public Storage on this nation-leading partnership to expand solar accessibility to underserved communities, particularly low-income families,” said Solar Landscape CEO and Co-Founder Shaun Keegan.
