Public utility company Alliant Energy has completed its 50-MW North Rock Solar Project in Fulton in Rock County, Wisconsin.

The facility, which features almost 120,000 solar panels spanning 473 acres, is capable of producing enough zero-fuel-cost electricity to power around 13,000 homes. Construction of the project began in August 2021 and was completed ahead of schedule, the company says.

The project is expected to generate approximately $6 million in combined shared revenue payments for the town of Fulton and Rock County over its lifetime.

With the completion of the North Rock Solar site, Alliant Energy says it has now become the largest owner-operator of solar generation in Wisconsin. The North Rock Solar marks the third utility-scale solar site completed by the company in 2022 as part of its Clean Energy Blueprint, after Wood County and Bear Creek solar projects.

“We’ve taken bold steps to accelerate our energy transition and deliver more reliable, cost-effective and sustainable power,” said David de Leon, Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin President. “Smart investments in forward-looking projects, like the North Rock Solar site, demonstrate our ongoing commitment to serve customers and build stronger communities. By partnering with local communities and leveraging the skilled craftsmanship of in-state union labor, we are building a brighter and healthier energy future for all.”

Alliant Energy’s Clean Energy Blueprint also includes the 65-MW Paddock Solar and 50-MW Albany Solar projects, which are expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

The company’s Clean Energy Blueprint aims to deliver more reliable, sustainable and cost-effective energy to customers. Under the initiative, Alliant’s combined 12 utility scale projects are expected to create over 2,000 local construction jobs, provide around $130 million in local tax revenues over the next 30 years, and help customers avoid more than $1.6 billion in long-term costs.

Alliant Energy, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, provides regulated electric and natural gas service to 985,000 electric and 425,000 natural gas customers across Iowa and Wisconsin.
