Luminace and AC Power co-developing projects after Community Solar work in New Jersey
Luminace, a decarbonization-as-a-service platform of Brookfield Renewable, has signed a strategic development services agreement (DSA) with brownfield solar development firm AC Power to develop solar projects in the US.
Under this strategic agreement, AC Power will identify the sites and manage key early-stage development tasks until the project reaches construction-ready status. Thereon, Luminace will acquire and build the projects and become the long-term owner and operator of the sites.
This agreement is expected to advance the energy and sustainability goals of Luminace’s customers.
The DSA has been signed after AC Power and Luminace completed two New Jersey Community Solar projects recently, which are expected to add an estimated 2.26 MW-dc of clean renewable power to the electric grid and power about 400 New Jersey homes.
“Luminace is pleased to partner with AC Power to develop solar projects. AC Power’s specialized experience of pairing solar energy with underutilized sites combined with Luminace’s operational experience and access to capital will help customers achieve their decarbonization goals while reducing their costs,” said Brendon Quinlivan, SVP of Luminace.
Luminace has an operational and development portfolio of more than 4 GW in distributed energy resources including solar, energy storage, e-Mobility and energy efficiency services.
Last year, it completed work with the County of San Diego on a 6.7-MW array of solar energy projects delivering power to municipal facilities. The county signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the renewables developer.
Joule Community Power also secured separate contracts with Luminace and BQ Energy, for a combined 31,000 MWhs of community solar expected in the first year of operation. The contract with Luminace for the provision of approximately 24,600 MWh in the first year of operation represents the nation’s largest solar generation supply agreement dedicated to community choice solar to-date.
