You say you want a Revolution? Spearmint Energy does.

The renewable energy firm has acquired a 150 MW battery energy storage project, called “Revolution,” from Con Edison Development, a subsidiary of Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses. The project is situated next to the King Mountain Wind Farm in the Lower Colorado River Authority Territory.

Revolution will provide battery energy storage assets to the ERCOT market of west Texas. It is the first project launched since the Con Edison Development was created this year and is anticipated to reach notice to begin operation in the second quarter of 2023.

“We are pleased to call a project of this caliber – located not only next to one of the largest wind turbine developments in the U.S., but also a massive solar field – our first, as it demonstrates Spearmint’s commitment to helping solve the climate crisis by developing best-in-class solutions that store and release renewable energy to power the grid,” Spearmint Energy’s Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Waranch said. “It is clear to us that the rapidly growing demand for flexible generation assets in ERCOT is just getting started, and as such, we hope that by continuing to acquire projects like this one, we will help solve congestion issues across the state while empowering others to assist in our country’s clean energy buildout.”

The BESS will help balance King Mountain Wind Farm, a 278-MW project in Upton County, Texas. King Mountain Wind is owned by NextEra Energy Resources.

Spearmint Energy bills itself as creating “green merchant” energy trading and development platform. It is focused on regions where supply intermittency is a bigger concern.

Con Edision Clean Energy is part of Consolidated Edison of New York, the electric utility and energy development firm.
