Nautilus Solar Energy completes 24.9 MW community solar portfolio in New York

Nautilus Solar Energy has completed a community solar portfolio in New York that will provide zero-carbon energy to approximately 1950 households and commercial subscribers, like Target Corp., Lowe’s Companies and Hannaford Brothers within the NYSEG and National Grid utility territories.

The 24.9 MW community solar portfolio comprises four projects in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Genesee, and Steuben Counties.

Community solar enables residents, without the ability or desire to install rooftop panels, to access affordable clean energy. Residential NYSEG or National Grid utility customers can subscribe to energy from the Nautilus community solar project.

“Community solar provides the opportunity for residents to choose solar and actively participate in the transition to clean energy which reduces green-house gas emissions and builds climate resilience,” Eric LaMora, Director of Community Solar at Nautilus, said.

Nautilus’s projects in New York have made it the largest community solar market, representing nearly 30% of its total community solar installations. The projects support New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act).

The Climate Act requires 70% of the electricity used by the state to be obtained from renewable sources by 2030 and 35% to 40% of the benefits of the investment in clean energy to be directed to disadvantaged communities and low-to-moderate income subscribers.
