Renewable Energy Group finds partner to advance Biofuels in U.S. and EU Marine markets
Renewable Energy Group and marine fuel supplier Bunker Holding Group have entered into a strategic global collaboration to support the shipping industry in the U.S. and EU markets through the transition to sustainable energy sources, specifically sustainable bio-based diesel.
Initially, the firms will focus on opportunities in North America and Europe, where the B20 and B30 bio-diesel are being trialled in high-traffic regions.
“Partnering with Bunker Holding will accelerate the marine industry adoption of biodiesel to achieve aggressive carbon reduction goals,” REG Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Bob Kenyon explained. “Our renewable fuels and customer service are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions today and offer a plug-and-play solution for the current shipping infrastructure. We look forward to further developing our relationship with Bunker Holding and supporting the shipping industry’s decarbonization movement.”
The agreement continues REG’s efforts to expand its product offerings and increase its reach into the 230 million metric tons global marine market. REG biodiesel, a clean fuel option, can be used in many sectors, including marine, rail and road transport, helping companies reach their sustainability goals without high investment or major modifications to equipment.
Bunker Holding CCO Christoffer Berg Lassen said, “As conventional fossil fuel continues to power most of the world’s marine fleet, we are thrilled to engage in this collaboration with REG. It not only further strengthens our supply chain of alternative fuel, but also deepens our know-how and insight of biofuels.”
