Projects funded under the NOFO are expected not only to improve the performance of technologies for hydrogen production, hydrogen infrastructure, and fuel cells, but also demonstrate hydrogen and fuel cells in a new, high-impact application.
The two Class 8 trucks were manufactured by Nikola Corp. The vehicles are being deployed and fueled by Nikola’s HYLA modular hydrogen refueling station at Diageo’s campus in Plainfield, Illinois.
Additionally, the project will include a fleet of 12 electric school buses for Brooklyn schools. The buses topped with solar panels will replace diesel buses at First Student's Malta Street location.
The main objective of the project is to recover high-purity silicone and other valuable materials that can be used to create more batteries and cells for a circular supply chain.
