Cypress Creek Secures $190M to Finance Construction of Sundance Solar and BESS Project
Cypress Creek Renewables has secured financing for a Colorado solar and energy storage project which, in name anyway, honors the late acting legend Robert Redford.
Construction has already begun on the Sundance Solar and Energy Storage hybrid project in Elbert County, Colorado. It will feature 75 MW of solar energy paired with a 50-MW-200-MWh battery storage system.
The project is expected to create up to 250 construction jobs and deliver more than $9.5 million in property tax revenue over the project's anticipated 40-year operational life. Cypress Creek has established a community working group in Elbert County to guide the allocation of $300,000 in direct community investment for a local impact.
MUFG Bank served as coordinating lead arranger for approximately $190 million in construction financing, joined by BNP Paribas, DNB Bank ASA, and Santander. Fifth Third Bank served as the project's tax equity investor.
The project is expected to reach commercial operation by late 2026.
"Building on this success, we look forward to continuing to invest in and advance projects across the state – creating jobs, generating local tax revenue, and delivering reliable, affordable, and American-made energy to communities," said Sarah Slusser, CEO of Cypress Creek Renewables. "As we expand our presence, we remain committed to working closely with local leaders, community partners, and state officials to ensure future projects support economic growth and power the state's future."
The press release by Cypress Creek Renewables does not mention it, but the name Sundance echoes longtime Colorado-based film festival as well as its founder, Redford. Redbord, who was known for playing the Sundance Kid in the 1969 film and lent his fame to the Sundance Festival, died earlier this year.
Cypress Creek Renewables has developed more than 12 GW of solar and battery storage assets nationwide.
