Medical Staffing firm AMN Aims for 90% Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction by 2050
Medical staffing company AMN Healthcare has committed to cutting its operational and supply chain emissions by nearly 50 percent this decade and nearly net-zero over the next 25 years..
These commitments include short- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to achieve net zero emissions. The company aims to reduce its absolute scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 42.8 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2050, based on a 2022 base year.
"We believe that businesses have a vital role in driving down GHG emissions and building a resilient, zero-emissions economy," said Cary Grace, President and CEO of AMN Healthcare. "Our commitments not only align with scientific standards but also demonstrate our leadership and responsibility towards a sustainable future."
AMN Healthcare has executed an internal carbon pricing strategy to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to offset electricity usage and reduce Scope 1 emissions. The company is also developing a 1.5°C globally aligned Climate Transition Plan and an internal Environmental Policy to guide its efforts.
Additionally, the company is working with suppliers, incorporating environmental requirements into its Vendor Code of Conduct to encourage efforts towards sustainability.

The Science-Based Targets initiative, a collaboration among the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), helps businesses reduce emissions. The initiative is guiding AMN Healthcare’s strategies for growth and supports global scientific consensus on climate action.
AMN is hardly alone among healthcare sector companies seeking to improve energy resiliency and sustainability objectives. Companies such as Kaiser Permanente have embraced microgrid technology.
