    Gasoline shipper TORM contracts MAN Energy's AI-based PrimeServ Assist for Vessel Engines

    Danish refined oil shipping firm TORM will strive for enhanced digitalization and predictive maintenance mastery of its engine class under a new contract with Germany’s MAN Energy Solutions.

    MAN will deliver its PrimeServ Assist digital service to 31 vessels in the TORM fleet. Based on MAN’s CEON digital platform, PrimeServ Assist will constantly monitor and evaluate all of the parameters affecting engine performance, the company says.

    These include data which could provide predictive maintenance alerts. MAN PrimeServe engineers would remotely detect anomalies prior to potential breakdowns.

    “Enabling immediate support to our crews is of highest priority in the digitalization process TORM is presently engaged in,” Per S. Mølris, head of technical decarbonization at TORM, said in a statement. “Digital service will open the possibility of optimizing the main engine performance, not only once a month but continuously, which eventually will lead to reduced CO2 emissions.”

    TORM has contracted MAN multiple times over several decades. The Danish shipper owns a fleet of about 80 vessels ranging in size from 45,000 to 115,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage).
