Electrify America 2024 Report: 16M Charging Sessions Connecting 600 GWh of Energy

Overall, the network surged past 4,800 public chargers placed at nearly 1,000 stations on the continent. Electrify America plans to grow the system another 30% over 2025 while working on solutions to reduce idle times at its stations.

Electrify America, the electric vehicle direct-current charging network started by Volkswagen nearly a decade ago, is nearing 5,000 public chargers throughout North America as it celebrated several major e-mobility accomplishments in 2024.

Consumer demand on the Electrify America network grew more than 50% with more than 16 million charging sessions. The charging stations delivered more than 600 GWh of energy to the EVs, 65% higher output than in 2023.

Electrify America also reached several other milestones, including commissioning its first indoor flagship station in San Francisco. The facility offers 20 hyper-fast chargers, lounge areas, restrooms and other amenities on Harrison Street.

In December, Electrify America announced a collaboration with Costco Wholesale to deliver charging solutions at five of the consumer good outlet’s locations in California, Colorado and Florida. Costco Wholesale, which is also installing its own off-grid solar to power fleet electrification, will own the charging stations and set pricing on charges.

Electrify America was formed by Volkswagen with an initial $2 billion investment as part of the automaker’s emissions scandal in late 2016. The company intentionally hide emissions data from regulators and ultimately was forced into a consent decree which included the commitment to promote EV use over the following 10 years.

Siemens acquired a nearly one-fifth stake in Electrify America three years ago.
