Flo Installing 500+ EV Chargers at Metro Grocery Stores On Quest to Own and Operate Larger Portion of Charging Network

June 11, 2024
While Flo has been designing, building, and selling EV chargers since 2009, the company only owns and operates 500 out of the 100,000-plus chargers it has manufactured

Quebec City-based electric vehicle (EV) charging company Flo has partnered with Metro Inc., a Canadian food retailer, to install more than 500 Ultra-fast EV chargers at over 130 grocery store locations across Quebec and Ontario.

"This partnership is about integrating the best EV charging experience into daily life and making it as routine as grocery shopping," said Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of Flo. "Making public charging options widely available is key for Canada to achieve its environmental goals and transition to an emission-free transportation sector."

Starting in August 2024, each grocery location will receive at least two dual-port Flo Ultra-fast chargers with a minimum of four ports. Each station will provide up to 320 kW of power, allowing EV drivers to receive an 80% charge in 15 minutes. Flo estimates the entire installation project will take around three years to complete.

"Metro is committed to adopting short-term, science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for its direct and indirect emissions," said Michel Avigliano, VP of Real Estate and Engineering at Metro. "Through this partnership, we are taking action to reduce our indirect emissions linked to the transport of our customers while contributing to the collective effort of transition towards a more low-carbon economy."

Once installation is complete, Flo will become both the owner and operator of the EV charging stations.

While Flo has been designing, building, and selling EV chargers since 2009, the company only owns and operates 500 out of the 100,000-plus chargers it has manufactured. But, the company now states its goal is to own and operate around 25% of its entire charging network within the next three years, and this partnership marks a crucial step in that journey.

“The same charger that has been installed for ten years, it’s generating more sales, more usage right now,” added Tremblay.
