Interparking, the company responsible for the public car parks at the Brussels Airport in Belgium, announced it has added 700 parking spaces specifically for electric vehicles (EVs) at the airport.
“At Interparking, we are committed to contributing to a greener mobility. The addition of these charging points at Brussels Airport is just a fraction of our ambitious project: to extensively roll out electric charging stations in Belgium and in the 8 other European countries we serve,” said Roland Cracco, CEO of Interparking.
Interparking currently offers more than 13,000 parking spaces at Brussels Airport, and until recently, EV drivers only had access to 50 specially equipped parking spaces on site.
Due to the growing number of EVs on the road in Europe, 500 new charging stations for passenger vehicles have been installed in the P1 and P3 parking garages, which are located near the front of the airport terminal. Interparking also installed 200 new charging stations specifically for staff in the P1 parking garage – increasing the total number of spaces specifically equipped for EV charging to 750.
The charging stations deployed at the airport are slow-charging stations to better match with cars left stationary for multiple days or weeks as the owner travels. According to Interparking, there will be no additional fees for parking at these charging stations, even after the charging process is complete.
“Overall, the number of electric cars is growing, so the need for charging points increases as well. Providing the necessary infrastructure for our passengers and staff is therefore a priority. Thanks to our partner Interparking, passengers will be able to recharge their vehicles in our car parks while on holiday,” said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport.
