Gravity Opens Google-Backed Flagship EV Charging Center at Indoor Parking Garage in Manhattan
Gravity, a New York-based EV infrastructure startup, has opened its flagship Midtown Manhattan EV charging center to the public.
Located at an indoor parking garage on 42nd Street, the Gravity EV charging center features 24 500kW charging systems capable of charging at a rate of 2,400 miles per hour – the equivalent of 200 miles of range in five minutes.
The charging systems were mounted to the ceiling within the footprint of the existing parking spaces, meaning no additional space was required to add the EV chargers. There were also no utility upgrades made to the building or surrounding grid – something Gravity hopes to replicate at more parking sites nationwide.
Certified by UL Solutions and backed by Google Ventures, Gravity’s EV charging infrastructure features:
- Available charging seven days a week with on-site attendants.
- A charging rate 90x faster than comparably sized Level 2 chargers deployed in most garages.
- Plug-in and charge capabilities for all vehicle types requiring no interfacing.
- Bidirectional charging capabilities to send battery power back to the building or grid.
“Automakers love to tout their EVs’ top driving speed, but what matters more than anything for drivers is how fast a car can charge,” said Moshe Cohen, CEO of Gravity. “Our technology can provide a car with 40 miles of range in just a minute of charging. With these speeds, we can push the entire industry to vehicles with faster-charging batteries.”
