Aggregate Industries, a building materials supplier, has expanded its heavy-duty vehicle fleet with the addition of an electric ready-mix concrete truck, helping advance the company’s journey to net zero.

The new e-mixer truck was delivered to Aggregate’s Coleshill Ready-Mix Plant in Birmingham and will serve the West Midlands and operations at both Coleshill and Kingsbury Road.

Electrification of our fleet, machinery, and plant is a vital component of helping us achieve of net zero ambitions. Traditional mixer trucks use diesel fuel, so to be able to have vehicles with zero emissions on the road is a hugely positive step change in our operations,” said Gary Brennand, Managing Director of Aggregate Industries’ Ready-Mix Division.

The iONTRON e-mixer truck, provided by SANY, features a 350 kWh battery that provides up to eight hours of running time in urban areas, ensuring zero emissions and a significant reduction in noise during transport and on-site operations.

EV fleet and battery storage company Zenobe was selected to provide the charging infrastructure for the heavy-duty vehicle – installing a 120 kWh charger on-site at the Coleshill base.

Zenobe also integrated an EV charging software to more accurately monitor the e-mixer’s charging profile and provide insight into the operational performance of the vehicle’s battery. This data will be utilized to develop and implement Aggregate’s long-term strategy to electrify its heavy fleet.

This is the second e-mixer truck Aggregate Industries has added to its fleet, and the company plans to acquire a third that will join its Birmingham fleet in the coming months.
