Lafarge Canada and Vicinity Motor Corp Partner to Deploy All-Electric Industrial Work Trucks
To support sustainable transportation in the construction materials industry, Lafarge Canada, a green building solutions provider, will begin electrifying its fleet by deploying two VMC 1200 custom-upfit all-electric industrial trucks in its British Columbia aggregates and ready-mix operations. The decision was the result of Lafarge’s partnership with Vicinity Motor Corp. (VMC), a North American electric vehicle supplier, and Pioneer Automotive Group, an automotive dealer.
“Each VMC 1200 truck is estimated to reduce site emissions related to transportation by 6200 tonnes of CO2 annually,” said Lafarge Canada (West) CEO Brad Kohl. This directly aligns with Lafarge's goal of reducing its scope 1 emissions and achieving net zero. As it expands its fleet, additional VMC models will be integrated in 2024.
“Our VMC 1200 is the ideal vehicle to help their team advance sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions in the Canadian building solutions sector – helping to create a better world for everyone,” said William Trainer, Vicinity Motor Corp. CEO.
