Cement, building and road materials manufacturer Lafarge Canada has installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its Innovation Hub in Winterburn, Alberta as part of its efforts to reduce indirect carbon emissions.
The charging stations, equipped with fast-charging capabilities, will be available for use by employees and visitors as part of the company’s broader sustainability mandate to minimize its environmental impact.
The Winterburn location marks Lafarge’s first in Alberta and is part of its plan to install 100 charging stations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Earlier, Lafarge had installed EV chargers at the Kent Avenue Readymix site in Vancouver.
According to the company, the installation of EV charging stations supports its aim to transition to clean energy and convert its light-duty vehicle fleet to electric vehicles by 2025.
“At Lafarge, we are committed to reducing emissions and improving the sustainability of our operations,” says Prez Skiba, Vice President and General Manager, Northern Alberta and Western Canada Ready-Mix at Lafarge Canada. “By making chargers available to our customers and employees, we are removing the barrier to EV charging availability and convenience.”
“With the installation of electric vehicle chargers across our markets, Lafarge is leading the charge on electric vehicle adoption in Western Canada,” said Brad Kohl, President and CEO of Western Canada for Lafarge Canada. “This is just one of many steps we’re taking to reduce our carbon emissions to build a more sustainable future.”
Lafarge Canada is a provider of sustainable and innovative building solutions including aggregates, cement, ready mix and precast concrete, asphalt and paving, and road and civil construction.
